Q2 2014 Performance

  • Sainsbury's has reported sales for Q2 2014 decreased by 0.8% for 16-week period ending on 14th September 2014 whereas sales (Including fuel) decreased 2.3% for the same period.
    • Sales were primarily decline due to significant pricing activity and food price deflation in many areas.
  • Like-for-like sales (LFLs) excluding fuel declined 2.8% whereas LFL sales including fuel decreased 4.1%.
  • Online grocery sales increased over 7% for the period driven by high level of competitor customer acquisition activity in the quarter.
  • During the quarter, its convenience segment registered y-o-y growth of 17%.
  • During Q2 2014, the retailer has opened 23 convenience stores, refurbished 10 c-stores and opens two supermarket and three extensions along with refurbishment of two supermarkets.

H1 2014 Performance

  • Sainsbury's has reported flat sales for H1 2014, whereas sales (Including fuel) decreased by 1.4% for the same period.
  • Like-for-like sales (LFLs) excluding fuel declined 2.1% whereas LFL sales including fuel decreased 3.4%.

At the end of Q2 2014, the retailer operates 594 supermarkets and 660 convenience stores.
