Carrefour Italy has acquired 53 Billa supermarkets from the Rewe Group for an undisclosed amount.
- The stores are locate in the northern Italian regions of Lombardy, Liguria and Aosta Valley
- The stores cumulate a total of 58,000 square meters of selling area and generated sales of EUR 300 million during 2013.
- The transaction is subject to approval from antitrust authorities and consultations with Billa’s employee representative bodies.
Rewe plans to continue phasing-out the remaining 83 Billa supermarkets in Italy to other parties. The retailer will continue to focus its energy on consolidating and developing its Penny discount chain.
