Kantar Worldpanel released its latest market share figures for H1 2014 in Spain.
- Mercadona remains the market leader, with 22.6% market share. This position was driven by its fresh assortment, the retailer has slowed down its rapid growth in market share between January and June 2014: 0.5% market share growth against 2% market share growth gained since the beginning of the financial crisis.
- Dia ranks second in terms of market share, with 7.9%, followed by Carrefour with 7.7% and Eroski with 3,3%.
- Carrefour gained 0.3% points of market share during H1 2014 and sales volumes exceeded those achieved by Mercadona.
- Lidl had a significant growth during the first half of 2014, gaining more consumer confidence against last year’s quota and increasing customers’ numbers, being the primary factor for increasing its market share up to 3.1% in June 2014.
