Auchan has rebranded five of the 49 Real hypermarkets to date and has seven more in line by the end of 2014, according to Marek Szieb, Chief Executive Officer of Auchan Poland. The remaining 37 stores will be rebranded depending on the results of the negotiations with the anchor shopping mall owners.
- The retailer is re-negotiating long-term lease agreements for all these facilities to enable the deployment of Auchan’s low-cost hypermarket model.
- Auchan reported an increase in footfall and a return to growth for the locations it has already refurbished.
- The retailer expects that during 2014 it will close-in on the sale of the eight stores it was mandated to divest from the total Real portfolio it acquired from Metro Group.
