Klaus Gehrig, head of Schwarz Group, has said the company is looking to acquire in the region of 100 Real big-box stores from Metro AG. He made the remarks at the Duale Hochschule Heilbronn Retail Innovation Days event, stressing that location would be key to the number of stores eventually acquired.

Gehrig also said the German market would become more competitive and that Lidl and Kaufland were determined to win on price. He dismissed the arrival of Russian hard discounter Mere (Svetofor) as a "temporary phenomenon" and insisted that regulation was needed to stem uncontrolled growth of eCommerce companies like Amazon and Alibaba.
