Walmart’s UK big-box business Asda is testing a concept in Leeds designed to cut down on packaging and plastic. It is partnering with FMCG brands like Unilever and Kellogg’s on a project where shoppers are able to fill their own containers with key brands like PG Tips and Rice Krispies. Asda own-brands like coffee and pasta are also available under the scheme. Certain produce items are also available free from packaging while the outlet will also feature reverse vending machines and other recycling stations. The test is scheduled for three months and will be monitored from the nearby Asda HQ before being assessed for a wider roll-out.
